General Hair Extension Care Instructions:

The hair extension hair has been previously factory processed and sealed to color/texture the hair and it is not recommended to alter this with any other form of chemical process; this may harm the hair and/or the keratin tips and we cannot be responsible for the damage it may cause.

  • When combing hair, always work from the bottom up securing the hair with one hand.  Do not brush or comb hair upside-down.
  • Remove all tangles prior to shampooing
  • Shampoo hair in a downward motion. Use your fingers in a horizontal motion in between extensions to cleanse scalp. Do not mix hair together, do not wash hair upside-down, do not use a circular motion to lather hair, do not use hot water.
  • Apply creamy conditioner to the hair from the mid-shaft down to the ends to prevent slippage at the root.
  • When rinsing, rinse thoroughly making sure all residues are rinsed out, rinse with cool water.
  • Although the hair extensions are real hair, it is not root-based and does not receive the same nutrients and oils as your natural hair.  Please be aware, the more you use heat on your hair, the shorter the life-span of the hair extensions. If you do use heat on your hair, use a low setting and apply a protectant.
  • At bed-time, braid your hair into a loose ponytail to the side.   Do not sleep with wet hair.
  • The average head sheds approximately 100 hairs a day, use a maintenance brush to free them and your finger-tips to keep hair extensions from twisting together.
  • To prevent breakage, please be gentle when wearing hair extensions.
  • To prevent matting and tangling at root area, use a maintenance brush by inserting brush at root and brush down to top of link.
  • Just as your natural hair sheds, hair extensions shed also.
  • Failure to adhere to these directions will shorten the life-span of you hair extensions.

Detailed Information and Extension Care
Below is a detailed care routine for each type of extension designed to keep your extensions in great condition.

CAUTION:  Hair extensions can cause damage to your own hair and/or scalp and care instructions must be followed to reduce any possible damage.  Long term use is not recommended.  The wearer uses hair extensions at their own risk.

Clip In Hair Extensions

A convenient way to add length and thickness without the committment of permanent extensions.  Easy to apply. Can be clipped in or removed in a few minutes.
Clip in Extensions are available in standard popular colours or can be coloured matched for an extra cost..  The hair is quality 100% human remy hair and is silky smooth and soft.  As it is real hair, it can be styled or straighened to match in with your own style.

Low maintenance.  They need to be washed occasionally to remove hairspray and to keep clean.  Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner that will not strip moisture from hair.  You can add a leave in conditioner to keep extensions hydrated.

Clip In Extension Care

• Comb your hair extensions with either a comb or a brush; make sure all knots and tangles are gone.
• When combing hair whilst clipped in, always work from the bottom up securing the hair with one hand.  Do not brush or comb hair upside down.
• Comb them once you’ve taken them out or it’ll be harder to get the tangles out. To store, tie a loose ponytail around the extensions to refrain from knotting and place in bag or container to prevent rubbing and knotting.
• Do not sleep with Clip Ins in your hair.
• Hair Extensions are not recommended to be recoloured.  If colouring is necessary, then it should be done by a professional.  Hair Extensions are chemically processed to promote shine and condition.
• Clip In Extensions can be curled and straightened as they are 100% human hair.
• Colouring and repetitive use of straighteners and curling tongs can dry and damage hair.
• Washing Instructions:  Only wash clip ins when necessary
• With warm water gently wet the extensions.
• Put shampoo on them, you don’t need to be rough with them. Combing the hair product through with your fingers should be fine and run fingers down the hair shaft.
• Use a shampoo with low or absolutely no sulfates or proteins. Rinse out shampoo. Apply conditioner. Conditioner makes them easier to comb once they’re dry, softer and more shiny.   Leave in conditioners can be of benefit as well.
• Once you’ve rinsed out the conditioner and they’ve dried,  comb through the extensions so they’re not tangled.
• You can leave the extensions out in the sun to dry or you may blow dry the extensions, but first apply a heat protectant to prevent possible damage to the hair.

Tape Hair Extensions

Tape Hair Extensions are a relatively simple way to add thickness and length.  The can last from 4 to 10 weeks depending on each client.  The hair can often be reused and reapplied, depending on the client and the care of the hair.

Tape Hair Extensions are available in standard popular colours.  The hair is quality 100% human remy hair and is silky smooth and soft.  As it is real hair, it can be styled or straighened to match in with your own style.

They do require simple but specific maintenance to ensure longevity of these extensions.

Tape Extension Care and Maintenance
To keep your extensions soft, manageable and in-place for as long as possible, we have put together a list of some small tips to help you manage your new and beautiful hair.

Do not wash hair for 24-48 hours after application.
When your extensions are first applied, do not wash for 24-48 hours after.  This can damage the bonds and result in slipping of extensions.

Use Professional Products
Ensure you are using a professional shampoo and conditioner that contain no sulphates or proteins. Some shampoos, especially supermarket brands, contain silicon and alcohol based products. Non professional products can dissolve the extension bonds and cause them to slip out; resulting in a patchy and uneven look to your hair. We highly recommend taking home with you a shampoo and conditioner designed to work with your extensions.

Take care when washing hair
Extensions can be delicate, be gentle when washing your hair. Do not tangle, vigorously rub or pull on your hair when applying products or washing them out. Use your fingers in a horizontal motion between extensions to cleanse the scalp.  Do not wash hair upside down or in a circular motion.

Do not apply conditioner to the extension bonds
Conditioner is designed to relax and lubricate the hair follicles, thus there is a possibility that conditioner can loosen tape extensions we do advise not to apply conditioner directly onto the tapes, only apply to the mid-lengths and ends.

Colouring Natural Hair and Extensions
If colouring your natural hair prior to application, this must be done 2 days prior to hair extension application.  Do not colour your hair with tape hair extensions in.  This can result in damage to the bonds and cause slipping loss of extensions.  Colouring of hair extensions is not recommended.  If colouring is necessary it should be done by a professional.

Do not sleep with your hair wet
Prongonged dampness can damage bonds.  To help prevent matting and knots, make sure your hair is thoroughly dry before you go to bed. Additionally we recommended you plait your hair or tie it in a loose ponytail to sleep on.

Regular treatments will help maintain your extensions
The extensions that we use have been chemically treated and coloured and although the extensions are real hair, they are not root based so they do not receive the same nutrients and oils as your natural hair.   Scheduling a treatment with your appointments will replace the lost nutrients, moisture and keep your extensions healthy and manageable. Alternatively, you can also purchase a take home treatment or moisturizing product, so you can get the in salon feel at home. Treatments will leave your hair looking fantastic and much easier to style.  All good treatments have a life expectancy of seven days in your hair so even if you wash your hair a couple of times a week your hair will still hold the benefits of the treatment.

Your extensions will need repositioning
As your hair grows, your extensions will start to grow out. Your designer tape extensions need repositioning every 4-10 weeks (varies) with your regular appointments to keep a natural look.  Leaving extensions in for prolonged periods without maintenance checks can result in damage to your natural hair and scalp.

Brush your hair regularly
Brush in the morning and night to ensure there are no knots or risks of matting. When brushing, be gentle, start at the ends and work your way from the ends through to the roots. We recommend using a paddle brush or a soft bristle brush or hair extension loop brush.  Hard bristles or bristles with nodules can pull on and damage the extension or your natural hair and scalp.

Never apply heat directly onto the bonds
Putting direct heat to the tape extension bond can compromise the tape. Heat sources can include hair dryers at close range to the bonds and styling irons. So be mindful of heat and start styling from the tape down.

Sea, pool or spa water will damage your extensions
Salt and chemically treated water alter the pH levels of the bonds, which compromises their adhesion possibly causing them to fall out.  Additionally sea, pool or spa water strips the treatments applied to the hair wefts, dramatically reducing their life, or permanently damaging them.  It’s advisable that is you chose to go to the beach or a pool, please tie your hair up to keep it dry, or if you’re a swimmer, please use a cap.  If the extensions get wet from salt or chemically treated water they should be rinsed in cool water as soon as possible.

Micro Ring Extensions
Micro Ring Extensions give you the flexibility of having single strands of hair (small bunch), rather than larger pieces and may feel more natural to some wearers.   Each strand is attached to an equal size strand of your own hair by a micro ring.  They can last 2-3 months depending on the client and care of the hair……

Micro Ring Extensions are available in standard popular colours.  The hair is quality 100% human remy hair and is silky smooth and soft.  As it is real hair, it can be styled or straighened to match in with your own style. With this choice of extension you can mix colours and wear more than one colour to acheive a foiled appearance.

Medium maintenance.  These extensions are better for those who wash their hair more frequently although care still needs to be taken.  Sometimes not suitable for clients with extra silky slippery hair as micro ring can slip.

Use Professional Products

Do not apply conditioner to the roots
Conditioner is designed to relax and lubricate the hair follicles, thus there is a possibility that conditioner can cause extensions to slidedown hair shaft.  We do advise not to apply conditioner directly onto the roots,  only apply to the mid-lengths and ends.

Colouring Natural Hair and Extensions
If colouring your natural hair prior to application, this must be done 2 days prior to hair extension application.  It is not recommended to colour your natural hair with your extension in.  This can  cause slipping and loss of extensions and patches when extensions repositioned.  Colouring of hair extensions is not recommended.  Colouring of extensions can cause drying and loss of moisture making extensions dry and brittle.  If colouring is necessary it should be done by a professional.

Do not sleep with your hair wet
To help prevent matting and knots, make sure your hair is thoroughly dry before you go to bed. Additionally we recommended you plait your hair or tie it in a loose ponytail to sleep on.

Regular treatments will help maintain your extensions

Brush your hair regularly
Brush in the morning and night to ensure there are no knots or risks of matting. When brushing, be gentle, start at the ends and work your way from the ends through to the roots. Fusion Extensions
These extensions are the most natural feeling and the most versatile when it comes to colour choice and mixing colours.
Higher outlay to the client as application and removal time is longer.  Excellent for those with very thin hair who have trouble with extensions being visible through the hair.

These single strand extensions (small bunches) are heat bonded to the natural hair with a Keratin bond.  This type of extension is the most durable and long lasting but the most time consuming with regards to application and removal.  Hence the cost is higher but absolutely worth it particularly for those with very thin hair.

Fusion Extensions Care and Maintenance
To keep your extensions soft, manageable and in-place for as long as possible, we have put together a list of some small tips to help you manage your new and beautiful hair.

Do not wash hair for 24-48 hours

Colouring Natural Hair and Extensions
If colouring your natural hair prior to application, this must be done 2 days prior to hair extension application.  Do not colour your hair with fustion extensions in.  This can result in damage or softening of the bonds and cause slipping or loss of extensions.  Colouring of hair extensions is not recommended.  If colouring is necessary it should be done by a professional.

Your designer fusion extensions need repositioning every 10-12 weeks.  Extensions should be checked every two weeks to reduce possible damage.
